Getting Started

What is NumboMath?

NumboMath is a math puzzle game where you place mathematical operators (+, -, ×, ÷) between a chain of numbers to reach a target value. It is designed to build mental math fluency and reinforce understanding of order of operations (PEMDAS) for students in grades 3-8, though players of all ages enjoy the challenge.

Is NumboMath free to play?

Yes! NumboMath is completely free to play. You can access all game modes including Easy, Medium, Hard, Daily Puzzle, Blitz Mode, and Online Vs. without any cost. The game is supported by non-intrusive advertisements.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is required to play NumboMath. However, creating a free account allows you to save your statistics, appear on leaderboards, compete in Online Vs. matches, and sync your progress across devices.

What devices can I play NumboMath on?

NumboMath works on any device with a modern web browser - including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Simply visit numbomath.com to start playing. No app download is required.

Gameplay

How do I solve a NumboMath puzzle?

Each puzzle shows a chain of numbers and a target value. Tap or click the slots between numbers to place operators (+, -, ×, ÷). The equation follows standard order of operations (PEMDAS), so multiplication and division are calculated before addition and subtraction. When all slots are filled and your equation equals the target, you win!

What is PEMDAS and why does it matter?

PEMDAS stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction. It is the standard order of operations in mathematics. In NumboMath, this means 2 + 3 × 4 equals 14 (not 20), because multiplication happens before addition. Understanding PEMDAS is essential for solving puzzles correctly.

What are the different difficulty levels?

Easy mode features 5-number chains with simpler targets. Medium mode uses 6-number chains requiring more operations. Hard mode introduces 7-number chains and parentheses, allowing you to override the normal order of operations for an extra layer of strategy.

What happens if I get a puzzle wrong?

You have a limited number of attempts (strikes) per puzzle. If your answer is incorrect, you lose a strike and can try again. Running out of strikes ends the game. Use the Hint and Check features strategically to avoid wasting strikes.

What do the Hint and Check buttons do?

The Hint button reveals one correct operator placement. The Check button shows which of your placed operators are correct (green) or incorrect (red) without using a strike. Both features have limited uses per puzzle, so use them wisely!

Game Modes

What is the Daily Puzzle?

The Daily Puzzle is a single puzzle that changes every day at midnight EST. Everyone around the world solves the same puzzle, making it a shared challenge. Your results can be shared and compared with friends. A new puzzle is available every 24 hours.

What is Blitz Mode?

Blitz Mode challenges you to solve 5 puzzles as fast as possible. Your total time is recorded and you can compete for the fastest times on the leaderboard. You get 3 attempts per day to set your best time.

How does Online Vs. Mode work?

Online Vs. Mode matches you against another player in real-time. Both players receive the same puzzle and race to solve it first. The faster solver wins the round. It is a great way to test your skills against real opponents!

What is Classroom Mode?

Classroom Mode allows teachers to create competitive game sessions for their entire class. Students join using a class code and compete in a series of puzzles for points. It is similar to platforms like Kahoot or Blooket, designed specifically for math practice.
